| Southern
States Football League
1999–Present
The
Southern States Football League is a late winter-spring semi-pro
football league with all of its teams based in Florida. It has one
of the most unique business forms in the industry, where a person
may put together a team and register it into the SSFL. Every off-season,
teams come and go.
The
league is popular as a type of spring-training league for NFL players
who don't get jobs in NFL Europe.
Each team plays a 10-week schedule. At the conclusion of the season,
all teams have a bye week, then the playoffs begin. Teams with the
best records during the regular season will have home field advantage
for the playoffs. All SSFL teams make the playoffs, regardless of
their record. Even a winless team can make the playoffs. The two
conference champions play for the league title in the Rice Bowl,
currently held in Orlando's Citrus Bowl.
The
SSFL game ball is the Wilson F1000 that the NFL uses.
