League of American Football
1991–1992
The
World League of American Football, or WLAF, began in 1991 as a spring
farm league for the NFL. Teams were based in
the U.S., Canada and Europe. The league was inspired in part by
the success the NFL had in scheduling exhibition games overseas.
WLAF played two seasons in the spring of 1991 and 1992, culminating
in a World Bowl championship. The league was put on hold after the
second season and revived as the NFL
Europe League in 1995 as an exclusively European league.
The
WLAF ball is the familiar Wilson model used by the NFL.
