Women’s Professional Football League
1999–Present

The WPFL began with a single exibition game in Minneapolis and a resulting barnstorming tour of the country. The league played a complete season in 2000 with 11 teams but struggled in succeeding years as other leagues sprang up and teams folded or jumped leagues as women’s football gained popularity. Unlike rival women’s leagues, the WPFL plays its games in the fall.

The game ball is a Wilson junior-size model, the same size ball that other women’s leagues use.
